Book Drive Update:

1,500 books donated to Malawi!

July 9, 2020

In December 2019, Girls Read to Write collaborated with the African Library Project, Books by Carli, The Learning Way, Girl Scout Troop 2223, and Blessed Sacrament Church of Valley Stream in collecting books for a library in Uganda.

We were all set to mail out our 1,500 books in May 2020, but the onset of the coronavirus pandemic changed that. We could no longer meet the deadline because everything seemed to cease, and the African Library Project had a set schedule of ship out dates for each library destination.

We would either have to wait for January of 2021 for the next schedule for Uganda or send the books to Malawi by July 1, 2020.

We elected to send the books to Malawi so that we could "spread the love of reading."
